Netzwoche: API's - the new digital business cards

Swisscom is working on modernising its work processes to make itself fit for the future. The company has high hopes for APIs in this respect.

In mid-May, the analyst firm Gartner will hold its Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit in London. Swisscom will also be there. The provider will give a presentation entitled «Changing the DNA of a Telco: Finding the Balance between Agile and Waterfall». The presentation will also cover the topic of API. Frank Fitzlaff, Head of API Program at Swisscom, and Reto Kohlas, Associate Partner at API specialist Innovation Process Technology (IPT), explained why APIs are becoming increasingly important for the telco in a background discussion prior to the congress. His company specialises in APIs and integration and has been working with Swisscom in this area for some time. In Switzerland, a dozen companies are currently driving API initiatives, Kohlas said. These include companies from all sectors, from banks and media to technology companies such as Swisscom. «APIs are the new digital business cards,» Kohlas said. They would become the foundation of business in the future.
